This test screens for Bence Jones proteins, which are free light chains excreted in urine and associated with plasma cell disorders including Multiple myeloma.

  • If multiple myeloma is suspected.
  • During evaluation of abnormal protein levels.
  • When unexplained bone pain, anemia, or kidney problems occur.
  • During assessment of plasma cell disorders.
  • As part of hematology investigations.
  • A spot urine sample is required.
  • Follow laboratory instructions for urine collection.
  • Avoid contamination of the sample container.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about kidney disease or hematologic conditions.
  • Additional confirmatory testing may sometimes be required.
