This test is done to detect antibodies directed against thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme essential for thyroid hormone production. Elevated levels suggest an autoimmune response affecting the thyroid gland. It is commonly used to help diagnose and monitor autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease, and to assess thyroid inflammation risk.
