This test is done to detect antinuclear antibodies, which are autoantibodies directed against components of the cell nucleus. The HEp-2 cell method is a highly sensitive screening technique used to identify autoimmune diseases. Positive results may be associated with conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren’s syndrome, and other connective tissue disorders.
